Keeping warm in the winter

Safety is important in all aspects of keeping yourself warm.

Take care when using electric blankets or filling hot water bottles. Never use a hot water bottle and an electric blanket together, as this is extremely dangerous and could give you an electric shock. You may be entitled to some additional financial help, especially during periods of very cold weather.

Winter fuel payment

Winter fuel payment is an annual payment to help with heating costs, made to households with someone over pension credit age.

Read more on how to keep warm and well on NHS Choices keep Warm, keep Well.

Cold weather payment

Cold weather payments are made to eligible people when the weather is very cold. You will automatically receive the payment if you get Pension Credit or certain other means-tested benefits.

Domestic abuse support and services

Domestic abuse is sometimes referred to as domestic violence. Abuse can come in many forms. You do not have to be physically injured to be a victim.

There are specialist domestic and sexual violence services across the county provided by Women’s Aid.
