Telephone number:

Service description:
Tools for Self Reliance (Northampton) provides supervised work experience for disadvantaged adults and young people. They have sheltered workshop facilities in Northampton, refurbishing tools for those in need in developing countries and for use by community groups within the County.

On average, 60 disadvantaged volunteers attend one or more of workshop sessions per week, assisted by a further 10 voluntary helpers.

Working as a group with a common interest, all volunteers enjoy the friendly and relaxed environment of the tools workshop. Sessions start at, stop for 1/2hrs lunch at 12.00 and then carry on until 3.30. Volunteers bring their own lunch in with them.

All volunteers are supervised by either their carers or able-bodied individuals also working in the workshop. Work is given to them according to their ability and they are left to work at their own speed. Everyone works, chats and makes new friends. At the end of the day the tools that they are refurbishing look like new and then are sent around the world to help others. In the workshop is a map that allows everyone to see where their tools have been sent.
