Service description:
Independent Parental Special Education Advice (IPSEA) is a registered charity that offers free and independent legally based information, advice and support to help get the right education for children and young people with all kinds of special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities.

INFORMATION SERVICE

The Information Services is for general legal enquiries and will signpost you to factsheets and resources on the IPSEA website. Please note: the Information Service cannot provide specific advice about individuals and their circumstances.

The Information Service can provide up-to-date information on:
• Your child/young person’s rights
• Local authorities’ duties towards children/ young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND) and their parents
• The duties of schools or colleges towards children/ young people and their parents
• Your rights as a parent of a child with SEND

ONLINE AND IN-HOUSE TRAINING COURSES

IPSEA provides a wide range of SEN training for parents, school staff, parent forums, support groups, local authority SEN teams, parent partnership schemes, school governors and other organisations.

ADVICE LINE

The Advice Line provides is the next step if you have problems with schools, requesting statutory assessment, statements, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHC), annual reviews, disability discrimination, and exclusion. TRIBUNAL HELPLINE

The Tribunal Helpline gives next step advice on SEN appeals and disability discrimination claims to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal. Please click here to book an appointment for an IPSEA adviser to call you back. Please note: The IPSEA advisor will also assess whether you need casework support.
