Service description:
Prospects provides the careers service for Northamptonshire making sure young people most in need of specialist help can access the guidance and support they need to move into education, employment and training.

Young Northamptonshire residents - specifically vulnerable young people aged 13-19, anyone aged up to 25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and young people who have left care - are supported and get extra help to ensure they make the right choices when they are ready to leave school or college.

In Northamptonshire young people are closely involved in shaping the services Prospects provides. This involvement helps motivate young people across the county to find the right direction to suit them.

We provide careers information, advice and guidance to young people to help them progress into education, employment or training. Young people in school or college are referred by school staff. Those outside of education can self refer.

The service is delivered in schools, colleges and a range of community bases.

Frequently asked questions:

• What are my choices after Year 11 or college?
• How can I get a job or Apprenticeship?
• What are the alternatives to open employment?

Schools have a statutory duty to provide access to careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) for all their pupils. The targeted service commissioned by the Council through Prospects supplements the arrangements for IAG that schools will already have in place.

The scope of the Prospects service targets young people:

• Who are looked after/leaving care in Year 9 – 13;
• Those who are supervised by the Youth Offending Service in Year 9-13; and
• Those with an Education Health & Care Plan in Year 11-13
