Service description:
Children’s centres provide locality-based support in the centre, in community venues, or in homes. To register to use the services, groups and clubs provided by your local children's centre, please contact them directly. Go to this page for more information about where families can go for support.

Provision of early intervention to both child, parents, or carers are as follows:

Information and Advice Services
Supplying information about a range of services, including childcare and employment support.

Family support
This children's centre can support families with sleep routines and boundaries, child development, child behaviour, positive parenting and home safety. Family support is usually accessed on referral from another professional such as a GP, health visitor, preschool or school. However, families are also welcome to contact them directly if they would like support.

Stay and Play Services
Supporting parents in their role as their children’s first educators

School Readiness Services
Working in partnership with parents and childcare providers to improve outcomes for children

Health, Lifestyles and Well Being Services
Universal and targeted activities to improve outcome for parents and children. Includes ante-natal and post natal support delivered in partnership with midwives and health visitors.

Improved Parenting and Family Support Services
Targeted support and Early Help services for families that need extra support. This may be via an EHA (early help assessment, formerly a CAF), or for Looked after Children, children on ‘Children in Need’ register, children on Child Protection Plans or Disabled Children. This includes access to victim and perpetrator domestic abuse interventions (at Level 3).

Services to Improve Adults Personal Skills, Education and Employability
Links to benefits and debt advice, adult learning opportunities and JobCentre Plus.


Drop-In Breastfeeding Support
Every Wednesday (1pm-2.30pm)

Appointment-Only Health Visitor
Wednesdays, fortnightly (1pm-2.30pm)

Drop-In Learning through Play, for families on the Highfield Road Estate
Every Thursday (1pm-2.30pm)

SEND Groups and Activities

Sensory Room
Available for bookings every Tuesday (12noon-4pm), the sensory room is a safe environment specially designed to provide a unique, tactile sensory experience. The room is particularly beneficial for children with additional needs of any age as well as babies and young children.

Parents are welcome to book a 30 minute session with their child, free of charge, subject to availability. Please contact the centre directly for further information and availability.

Part Time Centre - Highfield Road operates as a part time centre, linked to the Children's Centre at Montagu Street. Please contact the Montagu Street office for further information, including opening hours (Tel: 01536 311030)
