Hannah Payne RDA Stables, Mears Ashby, Northampton, Northamptonshire NN6 0DW
The Hannah Payne RDA provides therapeutic horse riding for children with a disability, a special educational need, or a visual impairment. The group was formed in 2007 in memory of Hannah, who died tragically in a car accident at the age of 17.
Riding can be particularly beneficial to people who have profound and multiple learning difficulties because it is multi-sensory experience. It can help with communication and social skills, build confidence, and awareness of others.
The group operates from Hannah's family stables, which have a specially-created grass manège (an enclosed area for horses and riders) and access to farm tracks and fields. They can offer riding therapy for up to 20 blind and disabled children each year, but spaces are usually in very high-demand and there is a waiting list.
Please note: the Hannah Payne RDA is a registered charity (No. 1119963) run by volunteers, and therefore relies on donations.
