Girlguiding is the operating name of The Guide Association. It is the UK's largest girl-only youth organisation and is a registered charity.
Guides take on adventurous activities, such as climbing, canoeing, sailing, and orienteering. They also have the opportunity to get involved in camps and international events, including girl-only festivals and overseas development projects. In local groups (called 'units'), girls complete badges and challenges that cover topics from circus skills, stargazing, and scientific investigation, to first aid, camping and community action.
Girls are organised into the following sections by age:
• Rainbow Guides - Rainbows are aged 5-7 years
• Brownie Guides - Brownies are aged 7-10 years
• Guides - Guides are aged 10-14 years
• Senior Section - for girls aged 14-25 years
• - for women and men aged 18+ make new friends, travel, serve their communities, and help the Guiding (and Scouting) movements thrive across the UK
The organisation actively supports guides with additional needs, which may include sensory impairments, learning disabilities, mobility conditions, and mental health conditions. They have a dedicated fund for members with disabilities, plus a network of specialist advisers that can help Leaders adapt their games and activities.
Please note: spiritual development is a key part of Girlguiding's programme, however no single faith is predominantly referred to or used. Girls with no religious faith are equally included and respected.
