Type of service:
John Greenwood Shipman Centre,
The John Greenwood Shipman (JGS) Centre is a 10-bed residential unit offering short breaks (respite care) to children with disabilities and complex health needs and/or complex behaviour.
This is a specialist service covering the full age range up to 18 years and provides a structured environment and nursing care. It offers parents and carers the opportunity to ‘recharge their batteries’ in the knowledge that their child is in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment.
Short breaks are not usually longer than three to four days in any one stay, with the maximum seven overnights in any month.
The Short Breaks Team work in partnership with all statutory and voluntary agencies including schools, day centres, care agencies, the county council, and health services. They also work very closely with parents and carers to ensure continuity of care.
