This team is part of the SEND Specialist Support Services. This provides a needs based service for children with Special Education Needs and/or Autism aged 0-19. There is no need for a formal diagnosis.
The Specialist Support Service offers four Northamptonshire localities and each locality has a team specialising in support at different ages: Early Years, Primary and Secondary.
The Portage and SEN Early Years Team supports children aged 0-4 who have additional educational needs, developmental delay or disability.
The role of the team is to empower and support families and Early Years settings, pre-schools, playgroups, nurseries or childminders to:
- Build on each child’s individual strengths and to identify next steps for their development
- Encourage children’s social interaction with their peers and adults
- Fully include children in a range of Early Years activities
The team will work with families and settings to agree learning and developmental objectives and Individual Education Plans and support families and settings to review and monitor these plans. We promote learning through play.
Appointments are available between 9am and 5pm and can be up to an hour long. This is an opportunity to seek advice and support from one of our Autism and SEND Practitioners.
No referral necessary, to book your appointment please email SSS@northamptonshire.gov.uk
