What was 2016 like for the Local Offer?

The Local Offer has had another busy and successful year.

Our social media links to parents and families have got stronger and stronger with some of our most popular ever posts being the local Christmas events.

Transfer to secondary school

We went to the year 5 events run by the Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS) to help parents plan the transfer to secondary schools. The Local Offer can provide a portfolio of special schools and information of all the schools in Northamptonshire and those we place children at outside of the county. Look out for the next round of these in March 2017 if you have a child in Year 5.

Events

We attended the Moving On Up conference and led on the “Money” workshop for students in mainstream schools from around the county. We helped the students get to the different workshops around the Saints ground.  And because of their feedback we purchased some marketing materials for the Local Offer stand that include pencils (that match our Facebook page) and some white yo-yo’s with the logo on. They have been very popular. We have attended all the events that we have been invited to, and invited ourselves to a few more.

It gives us great pleasure to meet you at these events.

We met lots of our young people thinking about their futures at the Choices events at Billing Brook School, Northgate School and Greenfields. We are always happy to come along so if you want us at your school's parent evenings or open days,  get in touch

Parent groups

I have been invited to speak to parent groups in Kettering, Corby, Brackley and Northampton and am always happy to go to the groups in the evenings or on Saturdays to share information about the Local Offer web site.

I speak to new social workers at the local authority academy to make sure that they are aware of the Local Offer and I have trained our customer service staff who answer the main phones for us to help them understand what we can offer.

Our “early years” teams suggested that they would like to have a calendar of regular groups in each town and area for pre-school children who have a special need. While this information was always on the Local Offer it is now easier to find - search calendar and they will be in the information and articles.

SNIX magazine

We have produced three editions of the SNIX magazine and distributed these to 1800 families each time. We continue to get great comments from people who use it, and it is a good introduction to the details that we can provide on the Local Offer.

Shooting Stars

We continue to meet regularly with the Shooting Stars and one of my development workers offered to be their volunteer helper in her free time.

Peer review

We had a positive peer review from Lincolnshire Local Authority and their SEN commissioner really liked our Local Offer website.  He thought it was well set out and it was easy to find information. Please let us know if you can’t find what you are looking for and we will happily help you out.

Summer Sendsation

We have started planning the next Summer SENDSation with IASS and our Parent Partnership (NPFG) and we are all getting quite excited about 11 June 2017.

Northampton College have promised to show off some of the facilities that they offer and the students will be helping out as volunteers.  Let us know what you would like to find at the event, and we will do our best to book it for you. We have set up an event on Facebook with lots of information on it. We  look forward to seeing you there.

The Local Offer team (Kathy, Leanne and Julia) would like to wish you all a joyful and peaceful Christmas and a successful New Year.
