Service description:
Change4Life is a public health programme in England. It is publicly-funded and run by the Department of Health.
Change4Life encourages families (and middle-aged adults) to make changes to their diet, activity levels, and alcohol consumption. It uses the slogan "eat well, move more, live longer."

Change4Life also works with schools, NHS organisations, local authorities and other groups. Free resources including posters and leaflets are available to local supporters.

Change4Life encourages the public to adopt six behaviours:

5 a Day – eat five portions of fruit and veg a day
Watch the Salt - eat no more than 6g of salt a day
Cut Back Fat - eat less fat
Sugar Swaps - eat less sugar
Choose Less Booze - drink less alcohol
Get Going Every Day - lead a more physically active lifestyle

Change4Life has six sub-brands:

• Swim4Life
• Walk4Life

Change4Life Sports Clubs

Change4Life Sports Clubs encourage more physical activity in children deemed less active than others (in both primary and secondary schools). It is funded by the Department of Health and managed by the Youth Sport Trust.


Start4Life targets pregnant women and new mothers. It encourages the following behaviours:

• Increasing physical activity
• Eating five portions of fruit and veg every day, eating less salt, eating less fat, eating less sugar
• Taking more dietary supplements
• Quitting smoking
• Quitting alcohol
• Breastfeeding

The campaign also urges fathers, friends, and family members to encourage mothers to make lifestyle changes. Free leaflets and posters are available to healthcare professionals.
