Special iApps develop educational apps for children with special educational needs, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment and other learning disabilities.
Special iApps is a social enterprise supporting children and young people who need extra educational help. The use of technology both in and outside of the classroom has helped them.
The flagship app, Special Stories, has been used widely by social workers, portage workers and parent/carers to communicate more clearly with children who struggle to express themselves verbally (as can often be found in children with Down Syndrome, Autism and speech impediments) when developing home school communication and Educational Health Care Plans.
The collection of apps offer a visual-based approach to help children from the first stages of learning about words, numbers, colours, shapes and emotions.
The series of follow-up add ons allow children to develop their speech, pronunciation, word recognition and fine motor skills.
Special iApps support parent/carers, teachers, occupational health professionals and anyone who knows a young person who could benefit from extra educational help.
The apps are based on Early Years content and the EYFS curriculum, but can be easily personalised and adjusted to suit any level of capability and age. The activities within each app encourage interaction and communication, and can be controlled by parents without interruption of the task at hand.
The are directly downloadable onto Apple and Android devices.
