Service description:
CoolTalk - Parenting Skills Sessions:
CoolTalk is a six week program currently held at Woodnewton, this is a structured program that requires participation and helps to explore the issues of parenting in a way that allows you, the parent, to make informed and responsible decisions. CoolTalk does not tell you, the parent, what to do, it encourages you to make your own decisions confidently. The program is based on ‘P5’ written by Kate Birch and is used widely in New Zealand and Australia. Since 2002 it has been used here at Woodnewton when parents who used it made it their own and named it ‘CoolTalk’. Kate is the author of Positive Parenting and related books including Parenting Teenagers.

At Woodnewton we firmly believe that:

"We are our children’s emotional adventure playground and they use us as equipment in their exploration of the world."

CoolTalk’s principles are firmly rooted in giving children the tools to be independent in solving problems and decision making, becoming aware of the consequences of their actions.
