Service description:
Northamptonshire KPA was set up in 2005 to support patients their carers and families who live in the county. A few patients from the Peterborough area have also joined, as they have no KPA. Trustees consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer plus two supporting trustees run the group. The officers are either kidney patients, or carers.
We raise funds to provide equipment for patients and the renal units, which are not otherwise provided by the Health Service. We also arrange outings etc.
Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis as well as those on Home Haemodialysis are cared for by a dedicated Home Care Team, from Leicester Hospital. Haemodialysis patients are dialysed at either Leicester Hospital, Corby Renal Unit, Kettering Renal Unit or Harborough Lodge Renal Unit.
Our Association has around 150 members and some of us meet on the third Tuesday in every month at Kingsley Park Working Men’s Club, Kettering Road, Northampton. This is a social evening where patients, family, friends or carers, meet together for a chat, a drink and a meal. Sometimes we have quiz evenings or play skittles etc.
The Association also gets out into the Community to promote Organ Donorship as well as attending Patient Information Days to talk to pre-dialysis patients.
