Service description:
Table Cricket is a sport played in schools across the county, culminating each year with a National Final at Lord's Cricket Ground.

Originally developed in 1990, Table Cricket was devised to offer another sporting option for youngsters who could not take part in Paralympic sports. It was created especially for those with more severe physical impairments.

The game involves a table tennis table (or similar surface area), side panels with sliding fielders, a ball launcher, a plastic ball and a wooden bat to simulate the game of cricket.

To the non-disabled observer, the adapted tasks in the game may appear quite easy. However to young people with impairments (including co-ordination and perceptual impairments) it is a real challenge to strike the ball with control and score runs in a consistent manner.

Table Cricket offers an opportunity to take part in a competitive match, placing an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun and enjoyable environment. It is a developmental game, traditionally for those in the 7-19 age range, in which players are able to participate with dignity, take up the sporting challenge and experience the spirit of the game by learning different procedures, terminology and basic tactics.

Quite simply, it offers the chance for those young people to emulate their role model cricketers, by setting their sights on competing for a trophy at Lord’s.

Everyone can play Table Cricket….young and old, disabled and non-disabled. It is a great way to learn and teach the basics of cricket.
