Service description:
Northampton Leisure Trusts Funzone is a fully supervised holiday play scheme. The aim of the play scheme is to provide the best quality play opportunities for children aged 5 & 13 years during every school holiday, including Christmas and Teacher Training Days. Funzone is open between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
Children attend for many reasons including parents having to work, to make new friends, and to take part in a range of activities in a safe and supervised environment. Children are organised into two groups at Lings Forum, the Minis group (5-8 years) and the Juniors group (9-13 years) and one group at Danes Camp (8-13 years). Each group is lead by a Play Leader and supported by up to three Assistants. The staff to child ratio for children aged under 8 is 1:8, children over the age of 8 will be supervised according to a 1:12 staff to child ratio.
Funzone operates from a child led perspective, ensuring that children have access to not only planned activities, but also free play activities. Playworkers will encourage children to take part in activities of their choosing during Free Time, whilst we ensure that we have a wide variety of resources for them to do so including computer consoles, arts and craft materials, board games, reading books, role play props, big games, a football table plus much more. Children will be encouraged to undertake risky play of their choosing, including tree climbing and rough and tumble play, if this is what they desire. Playworkers will ensure that during these types of activities that children are safe, and the risk is minimised by undertaking full risk assessments of all activities and involving children in their own health and safety decisions.
