Leaving care

Northamptonshire County Council wants every care leaver to reach their full potential: to be healthy, happy, safe and secure, valued and respected.

We will support you after you leave care up to the age of 21. We can also continue to support you after 21 if you are training or in education and provide you with support to get into education up to the age of 25.

We have a responsibility and want to prepare you for life after you leave care and support you in early adulthood. This will start when you are nearly 16. Your social worker will arrange a meeting with you called a pathway planning meeting. The meeting will discuss your future and the support you will need to help you become independent.

Leaving care guide

This handbook is designed to give you some practical information, tell you about the help and support you can expect and explain the different options available to you:

Care leavers strategy

The care leavers strategy lays out how, as a good corporate parent, the council should help young people to set high targets and standards, and support them to reach their goals.

Financial support and services for care leavers

This booklet contains the financial help and support you should receive from us to help you live independently as a care leaver.
