Contracts and tenders

We are committed to being an open, accountable and transparent local authority.  As part of this commitment we are publishing details of the contracts that we currently hold, as well as of those for which there is an opportunity to tender.

This is in line with the government's promise to ensure that local councils are transparent about their contract expenditure and tender opportunities.

In an organisation of our size with an annual gross expenditure of close to £1 billion, it is inevitable that we will hold a large number of contracts of varying values to help us deliver the varied services for which we are responsible in Northamptonshire.

Contracts register

The contracts register is a record of the contracts we hold with a value of £25,000 or more, in line with the Council's contract procedure rules.

Any contract valued at less than £25,000 will generate a purchase order number, which allows the expenditure associated with it to appear in our publication of council spending over £500. The contracts register is updated on a monthly in arrears basis to reflect current, live contracts and includes information on their total values, what they are for and who we are contracting with.

Northamptonshire County Council's procurement service operates as part of LGSS. The Council's contracts are listed on the central LGSS Contract Register, which includes joint contracts that the council has access to.

Was the contract the result of an invitation to tender?

This will depend on the value of the contract and any other circumstances, for example, in the event of an emergency, there may not be enough time to follow a full process.

Contracts Finder is the first port of call for viewing contract opportunities with us.  It shows information on new contract opportunities and a list of recurring contracts for which it is possible to bid in the future.

We also publish a range of tendering opportunities for our corporate property and asset portfolio.  For more information regarding current and future tender opportunities, including for our property and assets, please see Procurement opportunities.
