Energy policy

Northamptonshire County Council is proud to have been awarded the internationally recognised Energy Management System (EnMS) ISO 50001:2011 certification in acknowledgement of continual efforts to improve the Council's energy management system.

Achieving this certification is a unique feat for local government: the Council is believed to be the first local authority to have received the ISO 50001:2011 certification from an accredited body.

The Council's Energy Policy demonstrates commitment to continually improving energy management practices:

The Energy and Carbon Management Team (ECMT) is responsible for managing and monitoring the system on behalf of the Council, offering extensive advice and support to all Council business units on matters of energy efficiency and energy management, including schools.

Over the last year the Council has honed its energy efficiency strategies to cut carbon emissions by 7,528 tonnes CO2e.
