Decisions about the long term strategic land use planning of Northamptonshire are now focused back in the county due to the abolition of the regional planning element of the development plan system.
Strategic land-use planning in Northamptonshire is driven by the following documents:
- North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy (covering the districts of Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire). This plan to 2031 was adopted in July 2016 (replacing an earlier plan adopted in 2008).
- West Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy (covering the districts of Northampton, Daventry and South Northamptonshire). This plan to 2029 was adopted in December 2014.
- The Northamptonshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan (covering the whole county). This plan to 2032 was most recently adopted on 1 July 2017 (replacing the Local Plan adopted in October 2014).
The county council is responsible for the Minerals and Waste Local Plan; the preparation of the two core strategies are each being led by the
North Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit and the
West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit.
