Summer Reading Challenge a fantastic success

Helping children with reading

This year’s library-based Summer Reading Challenge has been one of the most successful to date. This was in no small part due to the help and support provided by an amazing army of young library volunteers, who have been responsible for signing up our readers and monitoring and recording their efforts.

Most of our SRC volunteers were aged between 14 and 17 and willingly gave up part of their summer holidays to support this fantastic Reading Agency initiative, which encourages children between the ages of 4 and 12 to read 6 books throughout the summer break.

Everyone completing this year’s Roald Dahl themed challenge received a certificate and a medal, but the real fun was the taking part!

If you know anyone that might be interested in volunteering to help with next year’s challenge, please speak to a member of staff in your local library, who will be happy to provide details of how they can get involved.
