Where to Cycle
Northamptonshire is blessed with a wealth of beautiful cycling routes, perfect for a leisurely ride.
Our favourite is the Brampton Valley Way, a 14 mile linear route linking Northampton with Market Harborough running along a former rail line and passing through 2 spectacular tunnels (good lights recommended). It showcases beautifully the surrounding countryside and wildlife and, according to the Sustrans website, it is one of the longest former railway line cycle tracks in the country – a must!Brampton Valley Way
There are several other great routes, from traffic-free family friendly trails, such as at Pitsford Reservoir and Stanwick Lakes, to lovely on-road rides around quiet country lanes through stunning villages, like the National Byway loop near to Oundle. For the more experienced, or for those wanting a challenge there is, each year, a calendar of fully supported sportives in Northamptonshire, usually starting in early spring and running right through to October. Many of these mass participation events are run annually in aid of charity and offer a range of distances, some even offering a shorter family route, giving the opportunity for anyone to have their first taste of an organised mass cycle ride:
Cycle for Cynthia, Lamport Hall, Lamport.
Wiggle Hawker Hurricane, Turweston, Brackley.
