Walking clubs and activities

There are various clubs, associations and charities that can help those walking for a hobby, social activity or even fund raising events.

NHS Choices has a walking for health section which offers advice on starting out walking and staying motivated, as well as the recommended physical activity levels for your age group. Join the friendly, beginner level health walks in your local area with trained walk leaders.

Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking. Their campaigns include the walking month of May and Walk to School Week to encourage walking as a daily activity. Living Streets also sticks up for pedestrian needs with campaigns such as preventing parking on footpaths.

Sustrans give advice about active travel including walking and cycling with your children and how to reduce your car journeys and increase walking and cycling for a healthy lifestyle. Sustrans also provides maps of the National Cycle Network which includes many off road leisure routes for cyclists and pedestrians.

The Ramblers' Association website provides a variety of information including practical walking advice, information on routes and a service for reporting any problems encountered on footpaths. The Ramblers' Association 'Get Walking, Keep Walking' website is packed with practical walking advice and tools, including a free to use 12 week walking plan to get you started.
