A team from Northamptonshire County Council has won the Local Authority Early Years Team of the Year award at the Nursery World National awards 2010 for their work on ‘The Northamptonshire Baby Room Project’.
The project focuses on early play experiences for babies in nurseries and at home and has so far run in 35 nurseries and children’s centres across the county.
The team were presented with their award by Michael Underwood after being recommended for the category by Nursery World’s editor Liz Roberts.
The Baby Room Project is aimed at child carers and parents and increases their knowledge about baby brain development and understanding of a babies’ personal, social and emotional development.
Simple experiences including talking and communicating, and providing a range of sensory and tactile resources can have a huge positive impact on babies.
The winning team are members of the county council’s Learning, Achievement and School Improvement Early Years Advisory Team working in partnership with Northamptonshire Educational Psychology team.
Cabinet Member for children and young people, Councillor Andrew Grant said: “I am delighted such a prestigious award has been won by Northamptonshire County Council for childcare work and I want to congratulate all the staff involved for their hard work in achieving this.”
