The achievements of more than 250 young people will be celebrated at an awards ceremony held next week.
The Children and Young People’s Partnership Board, which is supported by Northamptonshire County Council, was asked to organise the ceremony by young people who wanted to raise their profile and challenge stereotypes many adults have about the younger generation.
The issue was raised by the Children and Young People’s Partnership Shadow Board - a group of young representatives who shadow the board and who feedback the views and ideas of young people about local services.
Cabinet member for children and young people Councillor Andrew Grant said: "I am pleased these young people have taken this opportunity to celebrate the successes of their peers. Young people make a great contribution to Northamptonshire, and it is fantastic for this to be recognised in such a way.”
There are a total of eleven categories including, outstanding contribution to volunteering, the arts and sport, young entrepreneur of the year and contribution to the community.
77 nominations have been received by secondary schools, youth organisations and youth groups in the county and the winners will be decided by professionals working in children and young peoples organisations.
The celebration will be at Sywell Aerodrome on 14th October from 6.30-10.00pm and attended by senior level professionals from the county council’s children and young people’s service, councillors, front line workers and parents
