From this week replacement copies of Birth, Death or Marriage certificates for Northampton need to be ordered by telephone. Registration of a birth, death or marriage will still be carried out at your local registration office.
Northamptonshire County Council has re-organised the registration service so customers are no longer confined to the registration office serving their home address.
There will be no disruption to the quality of the service which aims to return the copy of the certificate within a maximum of 5 working days.
The Northampton Registration Office is the first of seven in the county to move its register to a single office that will serve Northamptonshire. Once all the local registrations office registers have migrated local historians and genealogists will be able to access all the indexes of Northamptonshire’s births, deaths and marriages dating back to 1837, and copies of certificates can be ordered.
The following information will need to be provided for a replacement certificate to be issued:
- The name(s) of the people involved
- The date the event took place
- The type of event, i.e. a birth, marriage or death
- The district of Northamptonshire in which the event was registered
- Your postal address.

Currently the Registration Offices for Towcester, Daventry, Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and Oundle are not affected by this change.
