A delegation from Northamptonshire County Council has had a successful visit to Brussels – a trip which aimed at starting a more productive relationship with Europe.
Leader of the council Cllr Jim Harker and cabinet member David Mackintosh took part in a series of meetings with MEPs and officials from the UK Permanent Representation to the EU, European Commission and other organisations over the past two days in a bid to attract European funding for the county.
Cllr Mackintosh said: “This is the start of a process which we hope will be beneficial to the people of Northamptonshire.
“The good news is that EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn, will be visiting Northamptonshire in February, which is a big plus for the county.”
Cllr Harker said: “This is great news for Northamptonshire and I’m delighted that this visit has got off to such a productive start.
“Getting the best for the county is our main objective and we’re determined to explore every option so that the people of Northamptonshire get what they deserve.”
