Sports awards nominations now open

Do you know of a talented sports person, a hugely dedicated volunteer, a sports club that has made a great impact in your community, a team that has carried all before them, a coach who has worked with countless numbers of people or has developed individuals to high levels of performance and you want their achievements to be recognised?

If so, then the nomination process for the seventh annual Northamptonshire Sports Awards is now open. Nominations can be submitted at http://www.northamptonshiresport.org/

Categories for the awards are:

  • Team of the year
  • Coach of the year
  • Sport School of the year
  • Volunteer of the year
  • Get Active 2011
  • Young Leader of the year
  • Young Sportswoman 2011
  • Young Sportsman 2011
  • Disabled Sports Achiever 2011
  • Local Sportswoman 2011
  • Local Sportsman 2011
  • Long time Contribution to Sport
  • Sports Personality of the year

This year the Sports Personality of the Year award is open to public vote. The nominees are:

Michael Jacobs (Football)
Northampton Town's Player of the season, Michael has come of age and his sterling performances were a vital element of the Cobblers' season. He also scored a goal and a penalty in the Cobblers famous FA cup win against Liverpool

Stephen Peters (Cricket)
The Steelbacks' Player of the 2010 season, the opening batsman was in dominate form throughout 2010 which led to his call up to the MCC team at the start of the 2011 season

Tom Wood (Rugby Union)
Northampton Saints' Player of the season, Tom was called up to the England squad where he made his full debut for the senior team in the 6 nations

Simon Barclay (Boxing)
Winner of the 2010 Northamptonshire Sport 'Local Sportsman of the Year' following his successful year that culminated in him winning an ABA title

Chantelle Cameron (Boxing)
Winner of the 2010 Northamptonshire Sport 'Local Sportswoman of the Year' award, Chantelle moved from a successful Kick boxing career to boxing. She is tipped for 2012 and has recently won bronze at the European Championships in June

Information on Northamptonshire Sports Awards 2011

  • The Awards ceremony will be held on the 10th November 2011
  • This is the seventh annual county sports awards coordinated by Northamptonshire Sport.
  • Winners of past awards include David Sales, Monty Panasar, Hollie Avil and Daniel Keating, Will Sharman and Chantelle Cameron
  • Four districts will also be running district based evening, tied into the county awards – Corby, Daventry, Kettering and Northampton
  • Over 400 people attend the awards evening from across the county
