Changes have been announced to Northamptonshire County Council’s cabinet following the departure of Cllr David Mackintosh who formally left his post yesterday to take up his new role as leader of Northampton Borough Council.
Leader of the council Cllr Jim Harker announced there would be no replacement for Cllr Mackintosh but rather all his areas of responsibility have been divided between existing members of the cabinet.
Cllr Harker said: “We are very sad to see David leave his position in cabinet but clearly we are delighted for him as he takes on his new role at Northampton Borough Council. I have decided not to appoint a direct replacement but rather divide his previous areas of responsibilities among existing cabinet members.”
Cabinet member for customer and community services Cllr Heather Smith will now be responsible for new areas including Children’s Centres and the prevention agenda.
Meanwhile deputy leader of the council Cllr Joan Kirkbride will now have responsibility for new areas including development of the Big Society, web engagement and communications.
Finally cabinet member for children, learning and skills Cllr Andrew Grant has picked up responsibility for Connexions.
