New school places to accommodate local housing growth

06 December 2011

A building project to increase the size of a Northamptonshire primary school is to be discussed by Northamptonshire County Council next week.

A meeting of the council’s cabinet on Tuesday (13 Dec) will be asked to agree that a contract can be awarded for the extension works at John Hellins Primary School in Potterspury.

Local housing developments mean that the school will have an additional 5 pupils in each year group and the total roll will increase from 105 to 140 pupils.

The school has already increased its reception intake for September 2011 by making temporary provision for a fifth class. The building project will provide a new classroom, outdoor covered play, extra group room and improved toilets.

The budget for the project is £370,000, funded through a combination of Section 106 contributions and the council’s capital programme as well as a £25,000 contribution from the school

The cabinet meeting takes place at 2pm on Tuesday 13 December.
