As a 16-year-old where better to get your first taste of driving than at the Silverstone Circuit – more familiar to most as being the home of the British Grand Prix.
Northamptonshire County Council has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy to offer the RoadSense course to more than 100 teenage pupils approaching the driving age across the county.
The students from Guilsborough, Wrenn and Chenderit schools will not only get to feel what it’s like to drive but will also learn valuable road safety lessons on how they can enjoy motoring without putting themselves in danger.
Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for infrastructure and public protection, said: “People who have not driven before are obviously familiar with cars as being a convenient mode of transport but it’s always a surprise just how powerful vehicles can be.
“Driven correctly this is all perfectly fine but it’s important that people realise that cars have the potential to be lethal machines if handled incorrectly.
“It’s far better that this lesson is learned in a controlled environment with experts to hand and so I’m delighted that we’ve been working in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy to deliver this very exciting programme.”
The RoadSense course is run by Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy at their dedicated facility at Silverstone Circuit.
