Fresh ideas on how to cut costs and waste at Back to School roadshows

30 July 2012

The start of term may be weeks away but help is at hand for parents and pupils who may be looking to bag an early bargain and reduce waste at the same time.

The Northamptonshire’s Waste Education Team, a partnership project between Northamptonshire County Council and the seven district and borough councils have organised three ‘Back to School Buy Recycled’ road shows offering information on where to buy recycled school stationery, clothing and bags.

They will also be offering advice for schools interested in how they can reduce the waste they create. Young people can come along to enter the competition to win a recycled bag with recycled stationery.

The road shows will be at:

• Asda supermarket, off Northfield Avenue, Kettering, on Tuesday, August 7 from 10am and 3pm
• Morrisons supermarket, Oxford Street, Wellingborough, on Friday, August 10 from 10am to 3pm
• Abington Street in Northampton on Thursday, August 23 from 10am to 3pm

Councillor Chris Miller, Chair of the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership, said: “We will have information on how to reduce, reuse and recycle at schools for those wanting some handy recycling hints, and I would encourage mums and dads to pay a visit and see what recycling tips they can pick up before the new term starts.”
