New crossing will help relieve congestion round new bus interchange

31 March 2014

Work to install a new pedestrian crossing – built to enhance traffic flow in the area around Northampton’s new bus station – has been completed.

The crossing, which reaches from outside the Subway restaurant to the Obsession tanning shop, will come into operation on Tuesday morning.

Also on Tuesday morning the existing belisha beacon zebra crossing, between O’Neill’s bar and Santander bank, will cease to be in operation.

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights the existing zebra beacons will be removed and the tactile paving replaced with normal paving.

By Thursday morning the zebra crossing removal will be completed and temporary barriers removed.

Following the traffic problems in the area earlier this month all the agencies involved - Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Police and the bus operating companies – have met to deal with the issues and put solutions in place.
