New crossing will help relieve congestion around new bus station

11 March 2014

Further engineering works are being carried out in the area around Northampton’s new bus station to help improve traffic flow.

Following the traffic problems in the area last Monday all the agencies involved - Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Police and the bus operating companies – have met to deal with the issues and put solutions in place.

Already a number of engineering and traffic solutions have been introduced, which have greatly helped in resolving the problems.

This week work will take place overnight to install a push-button pedestrian crossing diagonally across the road where the Drapery connects with Sheep Street.

The crossing will reach from outside the Subway restaurant to the Obsession tanning shop.

Once this is done the existing belisha beacon zebra crossing between O’Neill’s bar and Santander bank will be removed.

Work will start this evening from 8pm until 6am, and is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.
