Northamptonshire County Council’s library service has been shortlisted in the Best Council Services Team category in the 2014 Municipal Journal awards.
About the library service
The library service, which is called LibraryPlus to reflect the wide range of activities and information now on offer, is the only public library service to be shortlisted in this year’s awards across all categories.
Judges shortlisted LibraryPlus for this award because they recognised that it has achieved an improved service to residents and proven customer satisfaction despite ongoing financial challenges.
Deputy leader and cabinet member for customers and communities Councillor Heather Smith said: “Being shortlisted for this award is an endorsement of the transformation achieved by our library service to become LibraryPlus.
“At the same time as facing up to very challenging financial times, we have kept all of our libraries open, we have improved services and have a greater range available plus we now open on Sundays too. This is all thanks to the hard work and dedication shown by everyone involved with LibraryPlus, including our staff and our hundreds of volunteers.”
As well as traditional library services, LibraryPlus offers children’s activities and homework clubs, job clubs, Enterprise Hubs and business advice as well as community services such as bus pass renewals or food bank referrals.
The Municipal Journal award winners will be announced on 19th June.
