More school places for Brixworth, Hardingstone and Overstone

22 October 2015

Northamptonshire County Council’s Cabinet is set to approve plans to increase the number of places at three primary schools in the county.

The county council is working in partnership with the Hardingstone Academy sponsor the EMLC Trust on plans that will see 210 new primary school places created by increasing the admission number from 30 to 60 per year group to enable more children to attend their local school.

Overstone Primary will provide 105 new places by increasing the admission number from 15 to 30 per year group, while Brixworth CEVC Primary School will increase the admission number from 70 to 75 per year group to provide 35 extra places.

The increased pupil number at Hardingstone Academy has already taken effect and the increased admission numbers at Overstone and Brixworth will come into effect from September 2017.

'Local school'

Cllr Matthew Golby, county council cabinet member for families and education, said: “Northamptonshire has seen a significant rise in demand for school places due to the rising birth rate, new housing developments and in migration to the county.

“By increasing the admission numbers at these three schools, we can ensure there are sufficient places available for children to attend their local school.”

New classrooms

There will be two new classrooms, an extension of the school hall and a new staff room at Brixworth CEVC Primary School to accommodate the increased pupil numbers, and a new block of four classrooms will be built at Overstone Primary School.

Hardingstone Academy is due to submit a planning application for an extension to the school which will provide eight new classrooms and a new reception area. The planning application will be subject to consultation.

The cost of the building work will be funded by housing developer contributions and Department for Education grants.

Councillors will discuss the plans at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 10th November.
