Social media campaign encourages people to be ready for an emergency

A new social media campaign is being launched by Northamptonshire County Council’s emergency planning team to encourage people to consider whether they are prepared for an emergency.

30 Days, 30 Ways is a month-long campaign starting on September 1st that asks people to plan for a range of emergencies including flood, fire and evacuation.

It will also feature information on topics such as walking to school safely, when to dial 999 and key maintenance checks for the car.

Daily message

A different message will be sent out each day on Twitter with the hashtag #30days30waysUK from @NorthantsEPTeam and the council’s emergency planning team is encouraging people to share these messages with their own followers.

The campaign will also be run on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/30Days30WaysUK and there will be fun games and challenges to encourage children to get involved too.

Cllr André González de Savage, county council cabinet member for strategic infrastructure, economic growth and public protection, said: “Nobody likes to think about something like a flood or a fire happening to them, but it is important to be prepared in case the worst does happen.

“This social media campaign is a new way for us to reach out to people across Northamptonshire and encourage them to plan ahead for an emergency situation.

“The 30 different tweets and Facebook posts will invite people to think about everything from keeping children safe online to what to pack in a ‘grab bag’ in the event of an emergency.

“We’re really excited about this campaign and we very much hope people will engage with it and help us to spread the word through social media.”
