Traffic signals switched off on Northampton's Gas Street roundabout

07 January 2015

Traffic signals on Northampton’s Gas Street roundabout have been turned off to allow for major construction work to take place.

The lights have been left on for as long as possible but now new lights and cabling need to be installed.

While work is taking place, the roundabout will operate as a conventional roundabout as opposed to a signal controlled junction. Give-way road markings will be painted and lane restrictions will also be in place.

Throughout this time drivers are urged to use the signed diversion routes, using either Mere Way or Spencer Bridge Road, to ensure all routes into the town are used.

During January:

  • Black Lion Hill will be taken down to one lane on the approach to the roundabout to allow for the left hand turn to be built into Horsemarket.
  • Horsemarket/A508 will have a two lane approach on to the roundabout.
  • St Peters Way – two lane approach onto the roundabout to allow for works to take place on the new central reservation and Carlsberg access route.
  • Towcester Road – one lane approach to the roundabout.
