Positives of motorcycling showcased at Northamptonshire bikesafe event

18 April 2016

Showcasing the freedom and benefits of motorcycling while providing a day out for families is at the heart of this year’s Bikesafe event.

The one-day festival of biking will be held at Rockingham circuit in Corby on Saturday, 16 July - the first time it has been held in Northamptonshire.

Welcoming some great riders, themed activities and attractions, the event which is on between 10:00am and 5:00pm costs £1 at the gate, with under 14s allowed in for free.

However for £35 bikers can book now to enjoy a road route assessed ride with the Police Advanced Motorcyclists, who will advise on road riding techniques while, back at the track, participants will then get the chance to ride the circuit on their own bike under instruction from the California Superbike School.

Additionally for those who have never ridden a bike there will be the chance to have a go with the Get On Team.

Cllr Michael Clarke, Northamptonshire County Council Cabinet member for transport, highways and environment, said: “The road safety team in Northamptonshire is committed to improving safety for all road users and also looking at encouraging different ways to travel.

“In 2015 we carried out a motorcycle survey to reaffirm why people were using motorbikes, but also examining reasons why they were not. We collaborate with various partners like the Motorcycle Industry Association, Get on Team and the Ride to Work scheme to encourage people to take up motorcycling as a safe, sustainable and better way of getting around.

“Bringing Bikesafe2016 to Northamptonshire is a significant part of our travel plan sustainable transport agenda and we are thrilled Rockingham is hosting, what we hope, will be the biggest and best event ever.”

What else will be at Bikesafe?

Organised by Bikesafe and Northamptonshire Highways, the Bikesafe event is a police led motorcycle initiative that is run by most forces throughout the UK.

Other attractions on the day will include stunt displays by the Dave Coates Stunt Show, while John Reynolds, British Superbike champion will be attending accompanied by Luke Hedger and Mason Law – Gearlink Kawasaki Riders.

A wide range of bike manufacturers will be at the event with demonstration bikes available to test ride from BMW, Ducati, Herald, Honda, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha.

The UKs leading retailers, clothing and accessory manufacturers will also be at the event.

The assessed ride and track experience can be booked by emailing bikesafe@kierwsp.co.uk.
