How we pay and monitor Direct Payments

During May and June 2018, we asked for views about how we currently pay Direct Payments (Direct Payments are also sometimes called Personal Budgets) and how we monitor the ways the money is spent. We asked for views whether or not you use a Direct Payment to employ Personal Assistants or to pay for support from an agency or care provider.

We did not have any definite proposals about this and we did not carry out a formal consultation about the ways we pay and monitor Direct Payments, but we asked for feedback on how it's working and if any improvements could be made. We will now look at the feedback received and consider whether any changes need to be made.

 Useful information

We also asked for views about Direct Payment rates for those people who employ Personal Assistants. Northamptonshire Adult Social Services completed a review in January 2018 in relation to one aspect of Direct Payments. We looked at how we work out the rates that we pay in Direct Payments for those people who employ Personal Assistants to meet their support needs. As a result of this review, we devised some proposals which we consulted on during May and June 2018.
