A new project in Northamptonshire offers hundreds of people the opportunity to learn practical construction skills, with hands-on training at a number of sites across the county.
The Department of Education has allocated £23million to a Construction Skills Fund to finance 26 learning hubs countrywide. The scheme will be run by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Northamptonshire has been awarded £1million of funding up to the end of March 2020.
The funding will be used to offer up to 800 people the opportunity to learn building trade skills through a mix of classroom study and practical experience. Virtual hubs will deliver classroom-based learning and hands-on training will take place on live construction sites across the county.
Course applications will be open to all, but will be especially welcome from those who are currently unemployed, ex-offenders, ex-military personnel and those at risk of redundancy. Training is yet to be finalised but will be offered in a range of building trades.
