Service description:
KIDS is a non-campaigning charity that delivers a range of services for children and young people with SEND throughout England

The provision of mediation and disagreement resolution offers an alternative to a Tribunal hearing and is quicker and less formal. Mediation enables people to communicate better with each other, and it can help re-build relationships that have broken down.

Parents/or advocated support will need to contact Global Mediation on 0800 064 4488 who provide you with mediation advice and explain the next steps. Parents will have an option to be referred to either Together Trust or Kids who provide mediation and disagreement resolution services.

KIDS SEND Mediation helps you to resolve disagreements about special educational needs processes and provision. This includes disagreements around the EHC Plan process but also disagreements for children and young people who have (or may have SEND) but do not have an EHC Plan.

Disagreements are usually with the local authority, the school or college.

Mediation meetings are informal, arranged quickly (usually within 30 days) and take place somewhere near you.

KIDS service is free of charge. They will answer any questions you may have at any time during the process.

KIDS are fully impartial and mediation can help you resolve disputes without having to go to the SEND Tribunal.

KIDS mediators are very experienced in SEND and all are nationally accredited. The mediator will support you before and during the mediation. At the end of the mediation meeting there is a written agreement which is signed by everybody. This is a contract between you and the other party.

Mediation meetings are very successful, but you do not have to go to mediation before making an appeal to the Tribunal. If you are not happy with the mediation outcome, you still have the right to make a Tribunal appeal.

If you are not sure whether mediation might help in your case you can contact KIDS for more information.

Please note that in the law, there is a difference between "Mediation" and "Disagreement Resolution". KIDS provide both services and will explain which applies to your case.
