Service description:

Elective Home Education is the term used to describe parents’ decisions to provide education for their children at home instead of sending them to school.

The Local Authority supports the right of parents to educate their child at home and work in partnership with parents to ensure the child receives a suitable education that takes into account their age, ability, aptitude and any special educational needs they may have.

Parents making the decision to home educate their son or daughter should inform the head teacher of the current school in writing. The school are then required to inform the Local Authority. If the student has never attended school, please inform the Local Authority of this decision to educate at home by emailing ehe-admin@northamptonshire.gov.uk.

Special Educational Needs

All children can be educated at home regardless of any Special Education Needs or disability. If they have an EHC plan then arrangements will need to be made for the annual review.
