Childminders bring a wealth of experience to the early years sector. They come from many different backgrounds and are of all ages. Some may be graduates, some may never have gained any previous formal qualifications. Some work alone, some with assistants or in partnership with other childminders. All are part of a professional workforce and can provide excellent care and education for children.
Resources and support
The local authority early years improvement team would like to ensure that children continue to receive the very best provision and will offer support in variety of ways.
The Early Years Bulletin will be sent directly to you, but can also be found via this website. There will be regular network events which will have sessions in the evening to ensure childminders are able to attend.
We will prioritise visits for childminders graded 'Requires Improvement' or 'Inadequate' and those waiting for their first inspection.
Early years foundation stage (EYFS)
Information about the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Learning and Development and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities can be found in the section
Curriculum and Teaching Information section.
Childminders who are only registered on the childcare register do not have to follow the EYFS.
Information about the free childcare for 2 year olds and the free entitlement for 3 and 4 year olds can be found in the
Funding section. Information on 30 hours can also be found there.
Further information will be added to this section to support your needs.
