Training

​The Virtual School provides training for the 2018 to 2019 academic year for professionals working with children in care. Training is available for social workers, foster carers, and designated teachers, in addition to whole school and connected person training.

Advice on Pupil Premium Plus and interventions to promote accelerated progress, sharing examples of best practice, strategies for behaviour and engagement to promote inclusion and attendance, identifying mental health concerns and accessing support.

​Parents and guardians of previously looked-after children (subject to an adoption, SGO or child arrangements order).

​The Virtual School’s role; Educational achievement of PLAC; best practice recommendations the VS gives to school; what schools must do; the importance of building positive relationships with school; how Pupil Premium works for PLAC; information sharing and partnership working with schools; school admission arrangements; special educational needs; managing challenging behaviour in schools; promoting positive educational and recreational activities; choosing a good school.

There will also be an opportunity at the end for 1:1 information and advice.

Also note that this session does not consider strategies that are covered in the training for lac in order to avoid duplication.

​Nominated governors for children in care and previously looked-after children

​The importance of governors advocating for looked-after and previously looked-after children (LAC and PLAC).

How to support and challenge the designated teacher to ensure all LAC and PLAC are receiving a high quality education which suits their individual needs.

ePEP System Training (Statutory School Age CiC)

​Designated teachers with children in care, and DT support staff, working with children and young people in care to Northamptonshire in reception to year 11.

​The sessions will provide an overview of the Northamptonshire PEP process, the structure and requirements of the Northamptonshire ePEP, how to access and record data on a child or young person’s PEP, and the timeframes for completing and reviewing a PEP.
