A healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health, helping you to feel your best.
What is a healthy diet?
A healthy, balanced diet involves eating a wide variety of food and drink in the right proportions to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. It is recommended that men have around 2,500 calories a day (10,500 kilojoules) and women around 2,000 calories a day (8,400 kilojoules).

An active lifestyle can help reduce many of these long term medical conditions, help us feel better about ourselves and improve our physical and mental wellbeing. All of us need to incorporate physical activity into our everyday lives.
Physical inactivity is a global problem leading to many avoidable health risks including heart attacks, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The Northamptonshire Sport website offers a huge range of activities in which you can engage from extreme sports to gentle walks in the countryside. Whether it be walking, running, cycling or swimming, physical activity plays a big part in keeping us healthy.
Get Up and Go
The Get Up and Go programme of strength and balance activity sessions for older people is available throughout Northamptonshire:
