Guidance notes for volunteers

The Northamptonshire Get Involved Hub promotes volunteering and the benefits of getting involved in local communities. It provides a platform to support both one-off and longer term volunteering opportunities, enabling people to get involved through a wide range of organisations across the county.

You can use the Get Involved Hub to search for a wide variety of volunteering opportunities across the county, both within Northamptonshire County Council and with other volunteer based organisations.

Once you have registered and found an opportunity you are interested in, you can simply apply online and your details will be sent directly to the opportunity provider. The opportunity provider should contact you within 10 days of receiving your application to arrange an initial meeting.

Yes, you must be eligible to work if you want to volunteer. For more information please go to UK Visas and Immigration. You can contact Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire for advice on your eligibility to volunteer.

Anyone can search and apply for volunteering opportunities through the Northamptonshire Get Involved Hub and with a diverse range of opportunities available, it should be possible to find the right opportunity for you.

If you require support in using the website you can go into any Northamptonshire Library where a staff member would be more than happy to help you and you will be able to use one of our public computers to access the website for free. Alternatively, you can also ask a library staff member for a paper application form to take away and complete at your leisure.

Registering on the Get Involved Hub will enable you to apply for opportunities, track your activity and make it easy to access your own information each time you visit the website.

The registration process only takes a couple of minutes and is simple to complete. Once submitted, you will be given your own login and password that will allow us to recognise you each time you return to the site.

When you apply for an opportunity you will be asked for personal details including:

  • Contact details – so that you can be contacted by the opportunity provider about the opportunity. If you opt to be contacted about future opportunities Northamptonshire County Council will send you details by email.
  • Your date of birth – not all opportunities are open to all age groups so this helps organisations assess whether the opportunity is right for you. This information also helps Northamptonshire County Council monitor who is using the Northamptonshire Get Involved Hub.
  • Information about your availability – for the opportunity provider to assess when you can get involved.
  • Further information about why you want to get involved and how you found the Northamptonshire Get Involved Hub – to help us monitor use of this website.

If you apply for an opportunity within Northamptonshire County Council you will be asked for the following details:

  • Emergency contact details – these details will be kept on record if you volunteer for an opportunity within Northamptonshire County Council, so that the opportunity provider can contact a nominated person in case of an emergency.
  • Your access to a car – this information is helpful for the opportunity provider where voluntary roles require travel.
  • Information about your interest in the opportunity – to help the opportunity provider find the right opportunity for you.
  • Contact details for two referees – you will need to submit either an email address or a phone number for two referees who can be contacted for a reference for an opportunity within Northamptonshire County Council. These can be referees who know you well but whom you are not related to.

Before applying for an opportunity, please read our terms and conditions.
