Social Work Academy

Safeguarding children and supporting vulnerable families is our top priority and we need the best people helping us to make that happen!

That’s why we’re handpicking a new generation of social workers and only those graduates who can prove their commitment and passion to improving children’s lives will make it through the door of our acclaimed Social Work Academy.

The academy launched in October 2014 and has since been praised by Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, Isabelle Trowler, and recognised as “excellent” by Ofsted. The academy and offers newly-qualified social work graduates (NQSWs) a unique opportunity to benefit from a year-long intensive training and support programme.

“One week into the Practice Manager Programme, and more has changed than I ever expected."

"I feel different. I'm thinking in a different way. Having been qualified for eight years, I felt ready to take the next step in my career, and I'm enjoying every minute.”

What does the academy offer?

We are offering the best and most committed graduates the opportunity to undertake a year-long intensive training and support programme.

You will have high levels of support and mentoring and a phased approach to the volume and complexity of your workload. At the end of your year at the academy, you’ll have the skills, experience and confidence to join our existing workforce.

For the first six months of the academy, you will be based in a dedicated learning environment and spend a minimum of one day a week in a designated social work team. For the second half of the programme, you’ll be mostly based in your social work team with structured outreach support from the academy.

The academy’s innovative programme of bespoke training will support you to make the transition from an academic learning environment to meet the challenges of delivering safeguarding practice of the highest standard.

We recruit twice a year on a rolling programme.
