No trick or treat caller posters and a host of Halloween and Bonfire Night safety tips will be on offer as part of a community event in Daventry.

Officers from Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service will be hosting a Halloween and Bonfire Night safety information event in Tesco car park, New Street, Daventry on 24 October (11am to 1pm).

Visitors will be able to request ‘no trick or treat callers’ posters, which can be displayed at people’s homes if they would rather not have anyone door knocking at Halloween.

Fire safety tips

A variety of important safety advice, ranging from precautions to take while trick or treating to fire safety tips about firework use, will be given to shoppers who request it.

Also in attendance will be the Daventry Town Centre Ranger Sean Croke.

Crew Manager Duncan Timbs, from Daventry Fire Station, said: “We really hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween and Bonfire Night.

“We are holding this event to try to communicate some of the safety messages which are so important at this time. We are encouraging people not to use real candles in pumpkins, but to opt for battery operated instead and to please remember that Halloween costumes can be flammable.

“We also encourage people to visit an organised firework display, if they want to see fireworks, rather than having one at home. Fireworks can be so dangerous in the wrong hands, so we hope people will drop by to find out more about how to keep safe during this busy time of celebrations.”
