MGWSP, the highways service provider for Northamptonshire County Council, were out this morning from 8:30am salting the priority 3 routes to ensure those travelling on more minor routes can do so safely and that further routes remain open.

This was made possible as the weather improved and the crews continued gritting, as necessary, throughout the afternoon.

Crews are continuing, when not needed for salting duties, to refill bins and salt major pedestrian and shopping areas. This salting of major shopping and pedestrian areas across the county and refilling of bins will continue daily and we anticipate that the 1,729 bins will take a week to replenish. Again, we urge people to remember that the salt is provided for public footways and salt should not be taken for private use.

This evening the fleet will be salting routes from 6pm. The situation is being assessed on an hourly basis around the clock and we are monitoring if further action is necessary.
